Week 2 Agile Project Management
Ashford University Week 2 Agile Project Management Discussion Paper
part 1
Agile Software Development
Prior to beginning this discussion, read Chapter 3: Agile Software Development. Many organizations today use agile software development methodologies, which has led to shifts in the software development culture. The agile approach incorporates incremental and iterative development cycles that enable developers to better adapt to unpredictability while also expediting update times. In an agile environment, new releases are typically available to customers within two or three weeks.
In your initial post,
Explain the agile methodology and compare it with plan-based development, highlighting the scenarios where agile methodologies are more effective for software development.
Explain some of the practical problems that arise from using agile methods.
Describe agile project management, including the Scrum process, and explain how agile provides external visibility for organizing projects.
Use at least one Scholarly, Peer Reviewed, and Other Credible Sources from the University of Arizona Global Campus Library or elsewhere to help formulate your initial discussion post. Cite your source in APA format as outlined by the APA Essay Checklist for Students. Your initial post must be a minimum of 250 words.
Part 2
Requirements Engineering
Prior to beginning this discussion, read Chapter 4: Requirements Engineering. For this discussion, you will be focusing on functional and non-functional software requirements. Functional software requirement describes the system services or functions, while non-functional software requirements are the constraints on the system or the development process.
In your initial post, provide some examples of functional and non-functional requirements. Explain requirements engineering as an iterative process, focusing on the requirements elicitation process. Discuss some of the challenges in determining the software requirements when stakeholders are involved.

- Software Development and Requirements Engineering Concept Map–Section 2
Prior to beginning work on this interactive assignment, read Chapter 3: Agile Software Development and Chapter 4: Requirements Engineering in the course text.
In this week’s interactive assignment, you will add to your concept map that you started in Week 1 and further illustrate and make connections among the concepts of software development and requirements engineering. This week’s section of the concept map is focused on software development and requirements engineering. In your concept map, illustrate different software development methods, and explain the processes used for real-life software development and software requirements engineering. Be sure to label each component, and describe the function of each.
In addition to your concept map, you will write a paper in which you will
Summarize the Scrum sprint cycle in the context of agile project management.
Explain agile development techniques, including the Extreme Programming (XP) process and user stories.
Specify practical concerns with agile methods.
Describe the fundamental requirements in scaling agile methods to integrate with plan-driven methods.
Describe the concepts of user and systems requirements.
Describe how they need to be documented differently.
Explain the differences between functional and non-functional requirements.
List the main activities for requirements elicitation, analysis, and validation.
Discuss the relationship among these activities.
