How can a factorial design impact external validity?  Respond to  peer  POST    Chloe Napoli Week 3 Discussion     The social issue I have chosen to face using a 2 x 2 factorial design is the use of drugs in schools and the affects it has on academic performance. I have been in school for nearly my entire life so far, and have lived in three different states: New Jersey, Florida, and most recently Colorado. A reoccurring event I have experienced is peers around me who abuse all different types of drugs, from marijuana to opiates to unimaginable sources. To investigate the affect drugs, have on students and how it may show in grades and performance, a factorial design is a great method.            In the most common factorial design, researchers cross the two independent variables; that is, they study each possible combination of the independent variables (Morling, 2021). In this design, the two independent variables would be drugs and school students. When setting up the factorial design, the first step would be to separate students who partake in drug use versus students who do not. In the next step, there would be students with a GPA of 2.0 and higher and students with a GPA of 2.0 and lower. After crossing these studies over, I would be left with four cells: Students who take drugs and have a GPA above 2.0, students who take drugs and have a GPA below 2.0, students who do not take drugs and have a GPA above  2.0, and students who do not take drugs and have a GPA below  2.0.
