Week 1 Project

Identifying
a Public Health Issue

Identify at
least two different public health issues in your community or state. Describe
each issue to include identification of the target population, impact to the
population and community, relevant statistics, current interventions, and
involved organizations. Based on the current situation, discuss any changes
that you would recommend and why.

(Note: Use
websites for your local and state health departments to assist you with
identifying relevant public health issues.)

In a
Microsoft Word document of approximately 5–7 pages, examine two public health
issues that are currently being addressed in your community or state. Include
the following items in your paper:

Describe
each issue to include identification the target population and impact to the
population and the community.

Provide
descriptive statistics about the health issue and the population.

Identify
and describe current interventions at the community or state level that are
being used.

Identify
and discuss the roles of organizations that are involved in addressing the
public health issues.

Recommend
relevant changes and explain reasons for those changes.

Week 2 Project

Public
Health Services

Select one
of the public health issues that you described in the Week 1 assignment and
explain how the ten essential services are addressing that issue in your
community or state. You should directly identify at least three of the ten
essential services and show the relationship between the essential service and
the public health issue. Present the information in 5–7 pages. Provide an
overview of the issue, including the target population, the status of the
public health issue, descriptive statistics, policy information, the
involvement and role of key organizations, key activities, and any challenges
that are related directly to addressing the issue.

Week 3 Project

Application
of Theory—Individual

Now that
you are familiar with public health issues, it’s time to apply some of the
theories.

Task

Using the
first public health issue that you discussed in W1 Assignment 3, select two
individual health behavior theories and apply them to that issue. Identify at
least two theories or frameworks that can be used to understand your public
health issue. Examine the theories and apply them to the topic. In your paper:

Explain how
each theory or framework applies to your topic.

Provide at
least two literature based examples for each theory or framework.

Week 4 Project

Application
of Theory—Community

Now that
you are familiar with public health issues and the application of theory, you
will apply the social, cultural, and environmental theories to the second
public health issue that you discussed in Week 1 Project.

Task

Select and
apply two social, cultural, or environmental theories to that issue. Identify
at least two theories or frameworks that can be used to explain your public
health issue. Write a 5- to 7-page paper in which you examine the theories and
apply them to the topic. In your paper:

Explain how
each theory or framework applies to your topic.

Provide at
least two literature based examples for each theory or framework.

Week 5 Project

Research
Project

Submit a
research paper that focuses on a potential practicum project. The project
should focus on the background of the public health issue, essential services
of public health, purpose of addressing this issue, application of theory, and
projected outcomes.

Write a
15–20-page, double-spaced paper in Word format. Apply APA standards to citation
of sources.

Utilize at
least 7–10 scholarly sources in your research and be sure to include a
references page. Write in a clear, concise, and organized manner; demonstrate
ethical scholarship in accurate representation and attribution of sources; and
display accurate spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
