PSY498 PSYCHOLOGY CAPSTONE
Module 2 Assignment
Creating Inclusive and Respectful Spaces
The major purpose of the final assignment in each module is to integrate the information you have learned throughout the current module and the course thus far, and to practice effective and professional communication of your ideas in various formats. For this assignment, you will create a short multimedia presentation with voice-over, demonstrating your ability to apply the overarching themes, concepts, and principles in psychology to explain behaviors related to a social justice issue.
Remember, effective communication through different formats is critical for success in academia and professionally. In fact, employers say this is a critical competency. This is another great opportunity to practice these skills while applying your knowledge to real-life examples that happen in the workplace. This is a great example of a skill to talk about in an interview!
This activity addresses module outcomes 1, 2, 3, and 4. Upon successful completion of this activity, you will be able to:
MO1: Describe the complexity of the persistent questions that occupy psychologists’ attention. (CO1)
MO2: Examine the sociocultural and international contexts that influence individual differences. (CO1)
MO3: Evaluate theories to explain behavior, including advantages and limitations. (CO1)
MO4: Evaluate theories to predict behavior, including advantages and limitations. (CO1)
This activity aligns with the career competencies of oral communication and digital technology.
Instructions
Clearly identify a social justice issue present within the workplace or another space that is of interest or importance to you. You will then identify the behaviors associated with this issue, as well as the related psychological themes, concepts, and principles that explain the behaviors. In your presentation, identify at least one psychological theory that relates directly to your social justice issue, and explain how applying this theory could predict or influence more desirable behavior.
Students in the I-O concentration must discuss the role of negotiation/persuasive skills and psychological theory associated with it.
You should include the scholarly evidence supporting your ideas, properly citing (Author, year on the slide it is used) and referencing (include a “Reference” slide at the end of your presentation) in APA format. Your multimedia presentation will utilize images, writing, and video and/or audio.
Your presentation can be completed in Powerpoint, Prezi, Powtoons, or another platform approved by your instructor.
Be engaging and professional!
For maximum points, your presentation must include the following components:
10 to 15 slides
Voice-over/video by you, presenting the information.
All the components identified above, under Instructions.
Identification of a social justice issue present within the workplace and why it is important.
The behaviors associated with the issue you have identified.
Related psychological themes, concepts, and principles that explain the identified behaviors.
At least one psychological theory directly related to your chosen social justice issue, and how applying this theory to the issue could predict or influence more desirable behavior.
Evidence supporting your prediction.
Graphics/images and writing to support your presentation, with in-text citations.
It is recommended that you briefly write out a script for yourself before you create the video or presentation. Scripts will help you sound more focused and polished while keeping the information clear and concise. Follow the tips located at the beginning of our course to maximize the impact of your script and video.
Canvas allows you to create video right within our LMS, or you can use your phone or other video tool to create the video. If you need assistance, follow the directions provided in the Technical Guidance document, found at the beginning of our course.
Your presentation should utilize images, writing, and video and/or audio (your voiceover, which is required). Your presentation can be completed in Powerpoint, Prezi, Powtoons, or another platform approved by your instructor.
Your video or presentation should be a maximum of 3 minutes long. Be concise and clear, and remember that information presented visually (in text or graphics) does not necessarily need to be repeated in your voiceover.
Remember: Do not just read your slides. Use key words, bullet points, and images to convey, illustrate, or emphasize important information. Use your voice-over to add the remaining information.
