Alternative Assignment
For each topic/module required for this assignment, you may choose to create a power point presentation for each topic/module by using the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain-United States, 2016 (Links to an external site.) as a reference.
Additionally, if you are unsuccessful in completing a certificate, you may also create a power point (PPT) on that topic to recover those 25 points.
Timeline for Submission & Late Penalties:
PPTs can only be submitted to recover any given module until Wednesday 11:59 PM CST of the week following assignment due date. There will be a 10% penalty per day (every day after original Sunday due date) according to the late policy. After this time, no alternative assignments will be accepted unless there is a previous agreement and arrangement made with faculty prior to original assignment due date.
Power point guidelines to meet:
o Each topic/module should be clearly defined in your power point submission as to which CDC Module you are covering (Title Slide). You can do this in 5 different power points or by using a new title slide for each module topic. (2 points for each CDC Module Topic Title Slide)
o There should be a minimum of 4 slides per module topic NOT including a title or reference slide addressing the key points for each module noted below. (5 points per slide/key point- total of 20 points per CDC Module/PPT)
o Slides or slide notes should have enough information to express your understanding of the topic being presented.
o A reference slide citing the use of the CDC Guideline for Prescribing Opioids for Chronic Pain-United States, 2016 is required as well as corresponding in-text citations where appropriate. (3 points for each CDC Module Topic Reference slide)
• Module 4:Reducing the Risks of Opioids
o Identify situations that can increase risk for harmful outcomes for patients on opioid therapy
o Explain the range of clinical tools and tests that can provide data to help in risk assessment and clinical decision-making, such as prescription drug monitoring program (PDMP) data and urine drug testing (UDT)
o Describe strategies for mitigating risk in patients taking opioids
o Identify recommended next steps based on the results of UDT, PDMP data, physical examination, and medical history
