Leadership Application

Using the case study entitled “Code Red: A Public Health Approach to School Gun Violence” in your Rowitz textbook (pg. 600). Imagine that you have been hired as a Prevention Specialist to address school gun violence in your local area. What strategies and principles of leadership would you apply to address the scenario in this case study? Please include specific examples of how you would create a vision, foster collaboration, empower stakeholders, and guide decision-making on this initiative.

Negotiating and Mediation using Conflict Management Styles

Working with people such as is described in this week’s module on human resources requires application of negotiation and mediation skills. For this discussion, consider a selected organizational or community challenge such as implementation of a COVID-19 response within your organization or community.

Using the five styles of conflict management, describe how your negotiation and mediation approaches might differ.

Exprts on conflict management have defined early approaches to conflict resolution as incorporating five styles (Kraybill, 2005), from which various conflict resolution models have since been derived.

Break Even Analysis

Work through the problem below, then answer the following questions.

How many patients would the clinic have to provide services for to break even and at what point would this occur?

Break Even Analysis Problem

A new teenage pregnancy clinic will have a fixed cost of $300,000—start-up costs, hiring advanced practice nurses and employees, salaries, purchase of equipment, and other miscellaneous items.

Also, the teenage pregnancy clinic has variable costs of $200 per patient visit—medical equipment, educational materials, and other miscellaneous items.

There will be three levels of patient treatment:

Simple = initial assessment and four prenatal visits

Moderate = continuous treatment and monthly visits

Complex = high-risk treatment

Each patient will be charged the following per visit, based on the following categories:

Simple 15% = $400

Moderate 60% = $1,000

Complex 25% = $2,000
