Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is to provide the student an opportunity to assess the environmental health of their home and develop a plan of action to correct any identified deficiencies across system levels. Students are required to construct an affinity diagram of the identified issues and solutions for system level audiences.

Course Outcomes

This assignment provides documentation of student ability to meet the following Course Outcomes.

CO 1: Demonstrate the past and present importance of environmental health and climate change (POs 1 and 3).

CO 2: Analyze the association between population growth and the dissemination of environmental pollutants (POs 1 and 5).

CO 3: Utilize epidemiological and toxicological methods to assess environmental exposures and hazards (PO 6).

CO 4: Compare and contrast policies that have been developed to manage health risks associated with exposures to environmental hazards (POs 3 and 7).

CO 5: Examine chemical, physical, and microbial agents that originate in the environment and can impact human health (POs 2 and 4).

CO 6: Apply environmental health concepts to fields such as water quality control, food safety, and occupational health (POs 2, 3, and 4).

Due Date

Submit your completed project by Sunday at 11:59 p.m. MT of Week 4 as directed.

Requirements

In order to prepare for this assessment, you will need to retrieve the HEAL (Links to an external site.).

To complete this project, you will also require access to the following databases in order to secure scholarly evidence in support of your action plan: CINAHL, MEDLINE, Cochrane Library, and the Joanna Briggs Institute. You may access these databases through the Chamberlain University Online Library. Use the “Library Guides” link on the left of your page to go to the MPH section of the library. From there you can go to the library home page or conduct searches. If you need help, there is a guide on how to search the library, and you can chat with a librarian (depending on availability).

The library has a main menu available  with a link for Research Help in the left-hand menu. When clicked, it reveals a list of tools or PDFs on how to conduct various searches of the required databases

The Home Environmental Assessment With Action Plan project is worth 250 points and will be graded on quality of information, use of citations, use of standard English grammar, sentence structure, and overall organization based on the required components (as summarized in the directions and grading criteria and rubric).

Create your manuscript using Microsoft Word 2007 (a part of Microsoft Office 2007) or a later version, which is the required format for all Chamberlain College of Health Professions documents. You can tell that the document is saved as a Microsoft Word 2007 document because it will end in “.docx.”
