Purpose

The purpose of this assignment is for the student to provide an understanding related to the difference between quantitative and qualitative methods, as well as the morbidity and mortality trends present in their local community/ state.

Examples of qualitative methods to describe are individual interviews, focus groups, diary entries, and direct observation.

Examples of quantitative methods to describe are surveys, questionnaires, biologic assessments, quantified measurements (e.g., of time, distance, frequency of behavior).

Select the most appropriate quantitative and qualitative method to use when studying a new infectious disease outbreak in a community setting. Explain your reasoning for this choice and support your decision through course readings and/or outside scholarly source(s).
