In “My Viewpoint Two” I want you to express your opinion on a work of Art or something in the area of Culture. PLEASE TAKE NOTE…I am very much broadening the conventional area of Culture and Art here so you can find a topic that interests you…Possible Topics: you can critique a movie you saw, a TV show, a play; you can give your opinion on an actor/actress/entertainer/writer etc; you can criticize or complement a clothing fashion; you can write about a topic related to education (even the college scandal involving Lori Loughlin); you can write about whether we need art in our lives and/or if the government should subsidize it; you can discuss whether video games or tattoos should be consider art; you can answer the question is TV viewing becoming obsolete, etc, etc…It is up to you. But remember, you are conveying your opinion in this short essay so select a topic in which you “have an opinion”.
There are three steps in effectively writing this Viewpoint Essay:
Tell the reader about the “Art/Culture topic” you have selected to write about. You need to give details to do this sufficiently… Example: I watched the movie titled “Steve Jobs” based on the book by Walter Isaacson about the Apple founder’s life.
Explain your opinion/position on the topic you have selected…Example: I watched the movie “Steve Jobs” starring Michael Fassbender and did not like the movie.
Explain why you have the opinion you have about your topic. …Example: I thought Michael Fassbender did a poor acting job in the movie and the plot was too limited.
Now, please take note, that in the above, I am giving “very short, limited responses”. Of course, you will give more detail in your essay.
This essay expresses “your” opinion so write what you want, BUT please remember our earlier discussion on netiquette.
