1. Choose one of these three large healthcare organizations, and describe it:

2. Describe a fairly recent system-wide practice initiative that has been carried out by your chosen organization. Try to find one that relates to your DNP Project. This will require research on your part, and the sources utilized should be journal articles. Example: the VA health system implemented medication bar coding to prevent errors in 1995, and has evaluated and updated their system over time with numerous system-wide initiatives (you can’t use this one).

Discuss an area of the practice change initiative that did not proceed as planned, or an issue that evolved during implementation

Describe the company’s efforts to work around that issue

Discuss one alternative strategy that the organization might have used (but didn’t) to prevent the issue and improve the implementation process

In the Guiding principles: Role of the nurse leader in crisis management reading assignment for this week, the author lists five “Priority Focus Areas”. Each area has a number of bullet points.

1. Describe a potential crisis that could occur in your practice area. Merriam-Webster defines “crisis” as “an unstable or crucial time or state of affairs in which a decisive change is impending; especially one with the distinct possibility of a highly undesirable outcome” (http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/crisis). This type of event may occur in any DNP practice area and nurse leaders should be prepared before such events happen.

Change Proposal Assignment

Based on your Week 6 paper, determine if there is a plan in place to address the needed system-wide­­­­­­­­­­ practice change initiative in your chosen healthcare system

If the organization has a plan in place, report on the plan.

If the organization does not have a plan in place, provide a plan.

1. The proposal must address these items (as this is a 4 page paper, your proposal will be much more concise than one that would be used in practice).

Reasons for undertaking the initiative and projected feasibility of the initiative

Project goal(s)/objective(s) and potential barriers to achievement

Leadership commitment to the initiative

Plan for project management, composition of project team

Needed resources, including:Steps toward implementation
