HCCS PSYC231 Hope Activity
Hope Activity
Have you ever been overwhelmed by the path that is before you? Have you ever felt that your goals were almost impossible to achieve? There are strategies you can use to help you with your goals!
Feldman & Dreher (2011) did a study on hope and came up with an intervention to help students increase hope and achieve their goals. This class is going to use an adaptation of that intervention. The instructions are as follows:
Name a “stretch goal” that you want to complete within 6 months, and describe why you want to achieve this goal. This is a long-term goal that you would take time to complete. You must use complete sentences when descripting your stretch goal. (13 Points)
Name THREE sub-goals that will help you get to that stretch goal. These are goals that you expect to achieve along the way that are “stepping stones” to reaching that goal. (9 Points)
For each sub-goal, name an OBSTACLE that would keep you from reaching that sub-goal. You will name just ONE obstacle for each sub-goal. (9 Points)
For each obstacle mentioned, think of a strategy that would help you to OVERCOME that obstacle. You will name just ONE strategy to help you overcome each obstacle. (9 Points)
The Hope Activity is worth 40 points of your course grade.
