Week 2 Discussion
DQ1 What
difficulties or challenges do you anticipate as you prepare your journal
entries throughout this course? For your first response to this Discussion
Forum, give your answer to this question. Then for your other responses this
week, read the responses of your fellow students and give them some feedback
and some suggestions as to how they might solve or avoid the problems they are
anticipating. Hopefully someone will also have some suggestions for you.
DQ2 By this
time, you have been to your volunteer site at least once, maybe several times.
From what you have seen so far, what theories, research findings, concepts, or
other knowledge in your field do you think will be most applicable to your
volunteer experience? Explain your reasons for thinking this. As you look at
the responses of other volunteers, especially those in the same major as you,
what are your thoughts about what they wrote? Can you understand why they wrote
what they did? Can you suggest other theories, concepts, research findings,
etc. that they didn’t think of? If so, explain to them why you think these
other ideas might help their volunteer experience.

Week 3 Discussion
DQ1 Meet
with the human resources director or the hiring person at your site. (If there
is no one with that title, speak with whoever does some of the interviews of
prospective new employees.) Ask that person at least five questions to find out
his/her best and worst interview experiences. Describe the five questions that
you asked and the answers that you received when you met with the human
resources director or hiring person at your site.
DQ2 What
interview types did this person describe? For example, consider the screening,
the selection, the group, the competitive, the panel, or the stress interview
types.

Week 1 Journal Entries
If a
volunteer experience has yet to be confirmed, please submit a 250-300 word
summary describing your preferred experience. As a part of your summary,
include the duties or skills that you seek to develop. Also, include what you
hope to attain from the experience.
Otherwise,
if an experience has been confirmed, please create a new journal entry for each
day that you volunteer. Be sure to include the day, date, and time period that
you worked that day as the first line. Please put this information in bold
font. Also, write a paragraph that describes the type of duties you carried out
that day (what you did, who else was there, whether you were a part of a team
or were working alone, etc.). Once each week, focus on one particular event or
aspect of your work that week and describe why you found this particular task
or event to be unusual or of special interest. In a 250-300-word entry, relate this
aspect of your volunteer experience to some specific knowledge that you have
previously gained in your coursework to this point.
APA format
is not required, but solid academic writing is expected.
