Assignment. Recall a specific time and event, within the
last 6 months, when you were part of a large crowd or collective, an event
where you were relatively anonymous. Have you, for example, recently attended a
sporting event, a concert, or a demonstration? A large gathering of a religious
group or a street festival? Watched a parade or attended a political rally? (If
you haven’t been part of large collective recently, then interview someone who
has.)
When did the specific event occur? How large was the group,
and what were the circumstances that led to you being part to the group?
What kinds of actions did the group members perform? What
did you do in the group?
How did you feel during the group experience: happy, sad,
guilty, joyful, angry, upset, excited?
Did you feel self-conscious? Did you feel as though you were
being singled out for observation, or did you feel as though were relatively
unidentifiable?
Are memories of the event clear? Are you unable to remember
with certainty what happened at some points during the event?
Did you act in ways that are consistent or inconsistent with
how you normally act?
