Engagement Activity 4

Consider this a historical treasure hunt. Use the internet, your friends, family or strangers to locate a well-know or little known (but documented) person in history who exemplified gender non-conformity. Gender non-conformity could be expressed through clothing, behavior, occupation, reputation, or even ill-repute! The person should be someone specific, and not a group of people.

Write a short paragraph telling us about your chosen person, when they lived, why they are significant, and what impact they had on their society or time period. Include a picture (if available) and sources where you found information about them, and one quote describing them or one quote by them. (Must be a real person and not a mythological figure!)

The student who presents the oldest historical figure (as far back in time, not in age) gets a special prize! (spoiler: it’s extra credit)
