DQ1 Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences
This is a two-part discussion forum. Please respond to both parts.
1. Howard Gardner began working on his theory of Multiple Intelligences while a Professor of Psychology at Harvard. Complete the Multiple Intelligences Inventory (above). After doing so, study the nine intelligences.
What did you find out about your intelligence (the results)?
What did you learn about yourself?
Describe the types of learning environments are optimal for you.
2. Early childhood educators routinely observe children–in the classroom, outside, and in various other settings. Observe a child for 15 minutes. For this purposes of this observation, please observe a child at play–at a library, a park, museum, in a classroom, etc.
First, tell us where you observed the child and what age the child was. Then, reflect upon the observation by answering the following questions:
What did you notice about the child’s creative process and how can you relate this back to Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences.
Imagine you are this child’s teacher:
What strategies would you use to teach or instruct them?
What does it mean to teach with intention?
How could you do support and encourage growth for this child in future activities based on your observation?

Think back to when you were child (under age 8). What technology or types of technology did you have access to in your classrooms, libraries, and/or childcare settings? How has this changed? Give us a specific example of you would incorporate technology into your classroom with young children.

Collect drawings by two different children who are ages 3-5. Compare each drawing to the drawing stages provided. Please identify each child’s stage of drawing. Explain the next activity you will provide to scaffold each child to the next level. Attach images of the drawings.

Search the web and find a video where children are learning in the dramatic play center (sometimes called the pretend center); do not use the video from this week’s readings and resources. For this week’s post, please complete the following:

How do you explain the importance of dramatic play? How would you explain the importance of dramatic play to parents/guardians?

Please consider the resources about integrating language and literacy with science. What is the relationship between language/literacy and science? How can you implement the presented ideas and information into your own practice? Can you identify any obstacles? If so, how might you overcome them? Be sure to discuss the Habla program and its role in improving literacy for dual language learners. What role does the family play? How about the community?

Curriculum Web
What is a Curriculum Web?
A curriculum web is one of many ways to create lesson plans for your early childhood classroom. A curriculum web does not look like a traditional lesson plan (visually), but instead takes the interests and ideas of the children into account. Keep in mind, curriculum webs are a planning document, thus some of the components of a tradition lesson remain: theme, content areas, and objectives.
