Develop an analogy between the cell and an institution or structure that you are familiar with. For example, you could relate the cell to a school. In this analogy, the principal would be analogous to the nucleus.

Describe the function of each organelle.

Justify the selection of your analogy.

Genetic Counselor Case Studies

You are a genetic counselor working with parents who are planning their families.

Each of these families is concerned about passing a different inherited disorder to their potential children. You will read through each case study and determine the possibility that a child will inherit a specific condition from their parents. You will need to research the common inheritance pattern of the condition, create a Punnet square, and determine the possibility that a specific offspring will inherit the condition.

Prepare a report detailing your findings for each couple. Be sure to include the following:

A description of the condition and the inheritance pattern

A Punnet square

An evaluation of the inheritance risk for the couple’s children

This assignment should be in current APA Style with both a title page and a reference list that includes all of the sources used for these case studies.

Case 1: A couple is concerned that their future children will inherit hemophilia. The father has a brother that suffers from the condition. As their genetic counselor, you must determine the probability that hemophilia will be passed to their children.

Case 2: A couple is concerned that their children may inherit Turner syndrome from the mother’s side of the family. The mother has an aunt with the condition.

Case 3: The first child born to a couple was a female with sickle cell anemia. Neither parent has sickle cell anemia. The mother has a sister with the condition. The father was adopted and is unsure of his family history.

Case 4: The father has been diagnosed with Huntington’s disease. The couple would like to have children and they are concerned about passing the disorder to their offspring.

You are a tour guide tasked with taking students on an adventure through the circulatory and respiratory systems.

Write a two- to three-page script for your tour. What will you say to the tourists? What will they see? Your script should:

Identify and describe each of the structures in the circulatory system

Identify and describe each of the structures in the respiratory system

Explain how blood becomes oxygenated

Describe the flow of blood through the body

Identify the components of blood and describe their functions

 Example for writing your script:

Tour guide: Today, we are going to take a walk through the structures of the circulatory and respiratory systems. At each structure, we will discuss how they function and their key characteristics.

Guest: Where will our tour begin?

Tour guide: We will begin in the respiratory system, which means we start in the nose and mouth.

Be sure to address the short- and long-term effects of the substance. The video should be informative and engaging. The presentation should include a visual aid that engages the audience and guides understanding.

Autoimmune Brochure

You work for a healthcare company and have been tasked with creating an informational brochure on an autoimmune condition.

Examples include multiple sclerosis, allergies, rheumatoid arthritis, and lupus. Research the condition and apply the content that you learned in the lesson on the immune system. Include:

A description of the causes of the condition

An analysis of the risk factors associated with the condition and how you may be able to prevent it

An explanation of how the condition affects the body, focusing specifically on the immune system

An evaluation of any known treatments for the condition

Make sure the main points of your brochure are clear and supported. Transitions are clear and logical, the organization is well planned, and the language used is appropriate. For example, highlight and use key words and phrases to inform your audience about the selected autoimmune condition.

Be creative with your brochure. This is not a paper or essay. Feel free to include images, graphs, charts, or any other design element of your choosing. You can use software of your choice to create the brochure. For example, you can complete the brochure as a PDF, a Word doc, an infographic, or any other visual that works for the content of this assignment. A few examples of free software that can help you out are Adobe Spark, Canva, Flipbuilder, and Lucidpress. You do not have to use any of these sites, rather they are meant to provide you with options for creating your brochure.
