DQ1 Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences
This is a two-part discussion forum. Please respond to both parts.
1. Howard Gardner began working on his theory of Multiple Intelligences while a Professor of Psychology at Harvard. Complete the Multiple Intelligences Inventory (above). After doing so, study the nine intelligences.
What did you find out about your intelligence (the results)?
What did you learn about yourself?
Describe the types of learning environments are optimal for you.
2. Early childhood educators routinely observe children–in the classroom, outside, and in various other settings. Observe a child for 15 minutes. For this purposes of this observation, please observe a child at play–at a library, a park, museum, in a classroom, etc.
First, tell us where you observed the child and what age the child was. Then, reflect upon the observation by answering the following questions:
What did you notice about the child’s creative process and how can you relate this back to Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences.
Imagine you are this child’s teacher:
What strategies would you use to teach or instruct them?
What does it mean to teach with intention?
How could you do support and encourage growth for this child in future activities based on your observation?
DQ2 Technology
Think back to when you were child (under age 8). What technology or types of technology did you have access to in your classrooms, libraries, and/or childcare settings? How has this changed? Give us a specific example of you would incorporate technology into your classroom with young children.
