Professional dispositions have been defined as the “the commitments, characteristics, values, beliefs, interpersonal functioning, and behaviors that influence the counselor’s professional growth and interactions with clients and colleagues” (CACREP, n.d). Dispositions can also be described as attitudes and beliefs about counseling, as well as professional conduct and behavior. Not all dispositions can be directly assessed, but aspects of professional behavior are assessed during classes and field experiences in counseling settings.
