Sample Discussion Board Post

Post: Introduce yourself and share your goals.

Be sure to make your initial response early in the week and check back frequently to join in the discussion.

Begin by introducing yourself. Tell the class about your degree program and career plans.

Then, identify two specific goals you have for improving your reading and writing skills. Explain how one specific strategy from “Set and Achieve Goals” could help you achieve your goals for this course and identify one Writing Center resource you think might best help you achieve your goals. How confident are you that you will achieve these goals and become a stronger writer who is prepared for college and professional success?

Include an open-ended question about any issue your initial post raises which your classmates can help you with.

Respond: Respond to classmates’ postings.

As a member of this class, you are part of a writing community. All members are working to strengthen their communication skills and achieve their academic and career goals. Group discussion allows for new perspectives and personal growth.

Participate by responding to at least two classmates’ initial postings. Offer suggestions for strategies that might help your classmates reach their goals. Be sure to address the concepts of writing goals and how to become a stronger writer. Add to what your classmates have already written or ask relevant questions that might help your classmates to consider the issues even more thoroughly, suggest a helpful resource, or provide a tip that has worked for you as a writer.
